Phẫu thuật ghép mô liên kết dưới biểu mô đã được sử dụng trên thế giới thập kỷ 80 của thế kỷ trước, tuy nhiên ở Việt Nam phẫu thuật này rất ít được đề cập đến. Ứng dụng của phương pháp này là điều trị co lại. Phương pháp này có nhiều ưu điểm hơn các phương pháp khác, có thể điều trị cho răng co lại nhiều, không phụ thuộc vào vùng mỏ lân cận tại chỗ.
